The US Economy

(Forgive the backdate above, this is a catchup entry)

The US economy is in trouble.  Not news, I know.  Housing price meltdown, "subprime" mortgages, recession, weaking dollar, blah blah blah.  Perhaps more important is the fact that the American public has lost confidence in government.  Thank you, George W. Bush.

I think I am not alone in being more afraid of the Bush administration than I am of any terrorist threat.  I don't know what the statistics are, but I'm sure the average person is more likely to run afoul of the government in some way than to be killed in a terrorist attack.  When I think of how much money the government is spending on the Iraq War (some millions of dollars per hour), and what good it could have done otherwise, it makes me ashamed.  When I think of the debt being piled up for my family and future generations to pay down, it makes me angry.

I, like many other Americans, have to diversify my interests outside the US as a pure matter of prudent planning.

So begins the first adventure....
